Introduction | Task | Process | Resources | Evaluation | Teachers |
The present Progressive Conservative government of Danny Williams is currently undertaking a major initiative to promote the tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador to help attract tourists to our wonderful province. A major component of this tourism campaign strives to create an awareness for current residents of the attractions within the province. And in so doing, encouraging them to "be a tourist at home." To complete this task, the Provincial Departments of Tourism and Education have decided to develop communication packages that will showcase our province. To cut down on costs, they have decided to award contracts to three provincial Communication Technology 2104 classes too develop the tourism packages.
Congratulations, you have been chosen from an extensive list as one of the three schools to help develop this province-wide initiative.
Each group will be responsible for conducting research on one aspect of tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador as outlined in the twelve topics provided below. Using this research, groups will develop a tourism package which will include:

Website (3 pages minimum; 5 pages maximum) with original graphics |

A poster or flyer promoting the tourism site you have chosen. |

Brochure describing the main features, attractions, and events at your chosen tourism site. |

A one paged-newsletter informing the public of the new media campaign. |

A 30 second audio message promoting one aspect of your tourism topic. |
1. Your Communication Technology 2104 class will be divided into twelve groups with each group being given pre-selected tourist site.
2. As outlined above, each group will have five main assignments to complete as a part of this project.
3. Groups members must take a team approach when developing the various projects for their package such as initial research, design layouts, color schemes, webpage style & graphics, etc.
Important notes to remember

When
developing the webpage it is essential that you use your current knowledge of the
Microsoft FrontPage for initial design. In addition, your knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
will be essential when developing graphics for your website. Graphics include webpage
banners, buttons, or a combination of pictures and text. These must be original and
developed by the group. |

Posters,
flyers, brochures, and newsletters will be produced using Microsoft Publisher. These four
projects must contain the original text, wordart, clipart or other images relating to the
particular topic. All text for these components must be original based on
group research. Plagiarism from other sources will not be tolerated and as
such will be graded accordingly. |

Tourism audio messages will be created using Adobe Premiere audio/video software and Cool Edit Pro. In addition, a variety of sound effects and traditional Newfoundland music must also be incorporated into the audio message to accompany the recorded text.. |
